Libshield uses a peer to peer communications scheme allowing the use of your existing computers (i.e. no new hardware needed!). The client and control center are supplied as Windows MSI files which makes installation very easy. The print manager uses a custom print processor which needs to be installed on the print server or, if a print server is not used, the print processor will have to be installed on each client.

SIP2 authentication is available, it can be turned off or on as needed. There is a local database which is used for archiving and statistics reporting. The local database is in Microsoft Access format.

The waiting list manager can be run on a separate computer or on the same computer as the control center. Only one communications port has to be opened between clients and the control center computer. A combination of UDP and TCP communication protocols are used.

Compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista.

All updates will be available for download via the internet with email notification.

Magnetic card readers and barcode readers will work with all modules (i.e. patron login, adding users, waiting list entry). Full support is available via email or by telephone and is included in the price.
